Foxes FC Academy at Gothia Cup 2026: What a Week It Was!

Another incredible Foxes FC Academy trip to the Gothia Cup has come to an end, and what a week it was!

Each year in July, the Gothia Cup – the world’s largest international youth football tournament – gives young players the opportunity to compete against teams from across the globe while creating memories that last a lifetime. For our Foxes FC Academy players, it is one of the highlights of the academy calendar, offering the chance to challenge themselves on the international stage, experience different cultures and develop both on and off the pitch.

Throughout the week, every one of our Foxes FC teams represented the Academy with pride, determination and incredible team spirit. While our tournament journeys came to an end before the latter stages of the competition, every Foxes FC player gave everything for the badge, embracing every challenge and demonstrating the resilience, sportsmanship and togetherness that define our club.

Our final day perfectly summed up what this tour is all about.

We headed into the heart of the Gothia Cup at Heden Centre, where the players enjoyed soaking up the incredible atmosphere of the knockout matches. They watched some fantastic football, explored the tournament village, picked up souvenirs and, of course, added a few retro football shirts from around the world to their collections. It was brilliant seeing so many of our Foxes FC players proudly wearing the shirts of their favourite clubs and players as they enjoyed one final day at the tournament.

Back at the Åby Training Facility, we rounded off the trip with one last in-house tournament. There were plenty of smiles, some excellent football and one final opportunity for every player to enjoy being on the pitch together before heading home.

While the football was, of course, a huge part of the experience, this tour has always been about much more than results. It has been about stepping outside comfort zones, competing against teams from across the world, embracing new cultures, developing as footballers and creating friendships that will last long after the final whistle. Throughout the week, our Foxes FC players grew in confidence, supported one another through every high and low, and represented the club with outstanding maturity both on and off the pitch.

“This was honestly the best football trip I’ve ever been on! Playing against teams from different countries was amazing, and I made loads of new friends. My favourite part was walking around Heden, watching all the knockout games and finding an old AC Milan shirt. I didn’t want the week to end, and I can’t wait to go back next year!” – Ethan, Foxes FC Academy U13 player

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Foxes FC teams throughout the tour. Whether cheering from the sidelines in Gothenburg or following from home, your encouragement meant so much to our players and coaches.

We returned home with tired legs, full hearts and countless stories to tell. More importantly, our Foxes FC players return with unforgettable experiences, lifelong friendships and memories that will stay with them for years to come.

The Gothia Cup tour is one of the most special experiences in the Foxes FC Academy calendar, and we’re already looking forward to returning to Gothenburg next year.

Thank you, Gothenburg. Thank you, Gothia Cup.

We’ll be back.
